"Curious approach" behavior by 2 Humpback whales
during our July 17, 2017 Great South Channel trip
Our July 2017 Trip to the Great South Channel was one of the most memorable we've ever had.
Shortly after the 6+ hours of fog cleared , we were approach by these 2 humpbacks. They spent over an hour right next to us, watching us. They would show up on the port side and everyone would move to that side, then they would dive under us an come up on the starboard side, and everyone moved to the starboard side. Then back to port, to starboard, repeatedly. Then went forward and aft repeatedly also. They were closely observing us, we watch their eyes as they watched us. We couldn't move for nearly an hour. It was glorious and breath-taking. When they finally left, we at least 3 cooperative feeding groups of ~20 humpbacks each bubble feeding around us.
